Bronny James is reportedly heading down the G-League to develop — eventually.
First, the Los Angeles Lakers rookie (and son of teammate LeBron James) is set to play in the city where he was born.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that James Jr. will ” begin shuttling” between the Lakers and their G-League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, after the team’s upcoming road trip. That trip includes a game against the Cavaliers in Cleveland.
That would be the same Cleveland organization where James Sr. started his career and eventually won a championship (in his second stint). Cleveland is also the city in which James Jr. was born.
Charania reports that James Jr.‘s camp was open and reception to a G-League assignment. Training camps for the 2024-25 G-League are set to open on Nov. 7, the day after the Lakers road trip is set to end.
James Jr. was taken by the Lakers in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft, placing him on the same team as his father. Earlier this week, James Jr. and James Sr. became the first father-son duo to play together in the NBA.
However, the Lakers’ decision to draft James Jr. and push him onto the court so quickly has been met with some backlash. Critics have claimed that James Jr. is not NBA-ready and that his debut was an example of nepotism.
So far, James Jr. has been limited to three minutes played, which came in the Lakers’ lone game so far this season. He went 0-for-2 from the field with one offensive rebound.
