Bronny James made headlines on Wednesday night after scoring his first NBA basket for the Los Angeles Lakers. Unfortunately, it came amidst a forgettable blowout loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Lakers were off to a slow start in this one, falling 42-23 after the first quarter. They never recovered as the Cavs ultimately secured a 134-110 victory over LA.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick cleared his bench in the fourth quarter, which led to Bronny playing in just his second game after making his debut in the season-opener. The 20-year-old responded by scoring his first NBA points as he finished with two points, two assists and a steal in five minutes of action.
After the game, LeBron James expressed how proud he was of his son for this milestone, as well as how scoring his first two points in their hometown of Cleveland made it extra special. LeBron also made a surprising admission about his firstborn’s performance.
“He’s better than I woulda been in that situation,” said the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, via Lakers Daily on X. “… If the roles were reversed I don’t know if I would be able to handle it.”
For what it’s worth, LeBron finished Wednesday’s loss with 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting, six rebounds, three assists and one triple in 29 minutes of play. He did turn the ball over six times but this was far from a terrible performance from the 39-year-old.
Either way, what is clear is that LeBron is extremely proud of his son now that Bronny has officially opened his NBA account.
