Time and time again, Los Angeles Clippers coach Ty Lue has always emphasized playing team basketball. Despite the apparent reliance on former league MVP James Harden, Lue has repeatedly said that if his team keeps the ball moving, anyone could shine in any game.
On Monday night at the Intuit Dome, it was Amir Coffey’s night to remember. He scored 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting, highlighted by five three-pointers, to help the Clippers return from a 26-point deficit and stun the San Antonio Spurs 113-104.
STAY READY
Coffey has carved out a place on Lue’s rotation as an off-the-bench scorer. Despite not getting many minutes (he has averaged 16.9 minutes for his career), the native of Minnesota knows what his job is the moment Lue calls for him: come in and put the ball in the basket.
“I’m happy for Amir; I’m just communicating with him always to be ready. Be ready to go and shoot the basketball when you’re open. Tonight, he was a big reason we won. I told you before that if we play the right way, you never know whose night it will be. Just stick with it. Tonight was Amir’s night,” Lue stated.
STUCK WITH IT
Lue also mentioned Kris Dunn’s contributions and his three-pointer’s importance in helping the Clippers keep their momentum. This was a far cry from their lackadaisical first-quarter showing, which saw them go down 40-14.

“We got down and hung our heads early, but I told the guys to chip away at it, keep fighting. They got to a good start, making threes from everywhere, but then we locked in defensively and made some adjustments. It’s good for us to get this monkey off our back, complete a game, and play well in those last three quarters. I’m just happy for our guys,” Lue stressed.
