The Detroit Lions fought hard but came up short in a thrilling shootout against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, ultimately falling 48-42. Both teams combined for the most points scored in a game this season, but despite the high-scoring effort, the Lions couldn’t find a way to pull off the victory.
While Detroit’s 12-2 record still keeps them firmly in contention, the injury bug continues to haunt them, and the situation only got worse on Monday morning.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Lions defensive lineman Alim McNeill, a key piece of the team’s front seven, has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and has been ruled out for the remainder of the season. This is a significant blow to the Lions’ defense as they look to stay competitive in the NFC playoff race.
In addition to the loss of McNeill, Adam Schefter also reported that Lions cornerback Carlton Davis, who was injured during Sunday’s game, is expected to be sidelined indefinitely. Davis is set to undergo surgery for a broken jaw, further adding to the growing list of defensive injuries for the Lions.

The Lions have now formed an entire defensive unit with the number of injuries they’ve sustained, and the list continues to grow. Some notable players who have been hurt include Aidan Hutchinson, Alim McNeill, Marcus Davenport, John Cominsky, Alex Anzalone, Malcolm Rodriguez, Derrick Barnes, Jalen Reeves-Maybin, Carlton Davis, Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Emmanuel Moseley, and Ifeatu Melifonwu.
Yet, despite all these injuries, Dan Campbell and the Lions have managed to stay competitive and will continue to do so, even with the odds stacked against them. They’re still tied for the No. 1 seed in the NFC, which could prove vital as the Lions, despite their injury woes, could secure home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
