The New York Mets have started the season on fire, winning nearly double the number of games as they’ve lost. At 13-7, they currently lead the National League East division and are a full game ahead of the second-place Philadelphia Phillies.
Despite their record, their prized investment, Juan Soto, has yet to get going. But in Friday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, the crowd in Queens gave him the king’s treatment when he stepped up to the plate. The crowd was on their feet and showing their full support for the former World Series champion, and he delivered with an RBI single.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Lindor commented on the fans’ reaction:
“The crowd is embracing Soto, and I love that they’re embracing him because he’s gonna be with us for a very long time.”
He continued, “He’s a fantastic teammate and a fantastic player. I know at any point he’s going to make something happen. You kind of expect it, he’s that good…I’m glad he was able to come through today.”
"I'm happy that the fans are embracing him and showing him love because he deserves it."

Soto had a clutch single that tied the game for the Mets in the fifth inning. This hit set the table for Lindor’s eventual walk-off in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The $765 million man has gotten off to a slow start, relative to his standards. His season OPS of .776 pales in comparison to his career mark of .949. But the New York faithful have chosen to embrace the four-time All-Star in hopes he can turn his season around.
