Tyson Fury has shared his thoughts on the upcoming showdown between Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois.
Usyk and Dubois are set to do battle for the undisputed heavyweight championship on Saturday July 19 at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
It will be a rematch of their first encounter, which took place back in August of 2023 and ended with Usyk stopping the heavy-handed Brit in the ninth round to successfully defend his unified WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles.
After defeating Dubois, Usyk would go on to rack up back-to-back victories over Fury, becoming the first ever undisputed heavyweight champion of the ‘four belt era’ in their historic first battle in May of last year.
Speaking in a media scrum ‘The Gypsy King’ gave an honest assessment of his former rival’s rematch with Dubois, although he admits he ‘doesn’t know’ who will prevail this time around.
“I don’t know. Dubois’ very young, ambitious, big strong man. Usyk’s very experienced but again, he’s coming off of two fights with me which is debatable whether he won or not, which he did win and that’s all that matters. He’s 38-years-old.”
Asked by Seconds Out the one piece of advice he would give to his countryman ahead of the fight, ‘The Gypsy King’ seemed to suggest that Dubois would struggle to win if the fight went the distance but changed track.
“Knock him out … Actually, I wouldn’t sat that because it’s in England and it’s his home show. Just do the best you can. He hurt him before with a body shot, put him down heavily, so maybe he can hurt him again.”
History beckons for Dubois, as he could become the first British heavyweight since Lennox Lewis to become undisputed, who achieved this feat during the ‘three belt’ era back in 1999.
As for Usyk, the 38-year-old Ukrainian is also on the verge of writing his name into the boxing history books once again, but it remains to be seen whether those tough battles with Fury will have made an impact when he faces the younger man later this month.
