Kyle Schwarber receives high praise from Phillies after 50th home run

The Philadelphia Phillies are in the midst of a huge series against the New York Mets at Citizens Bank Park. It’s a series that will have massive ramifications on the NL East, and the Phillies have won the first two games of the series.

In the second game of the series, the Phillies trounced the Mets 9-3, thanks in part to Kyle Schwarber’s 50th home run, which he blistered to center field. It’s an incredible feat for Schwarber, as he joins only Ryan Howard (58 home runs) as the only Phillies to hit at least 50 home runs in a season.

After the game, Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic shared comments from a trio of Phillies praising Schwarber for reaching 50 home runs. They didn’t just praise the player, but also the person, a testament to how much Schwarber means to the Phillies.

Trio of Phillies Praise Kyle Schwarber Amid 50th Homer

“It’s unbelievable,” said Otto Kemp, “Really, it just looks like a video game for the guy.”

Schwarber’s numbers have looked video-game-esque this season, as he has an NL-leading 50 home runs and an MLB-leading 123 RBIs. It’s been his best season as a professional, and he’s been a major part of the Phillies’ success this season.

“We were waiting a long time for that one,” Range Suarez said. “He’s a tremendous player, but even more so, he’s a tremendous teammate.”

Schwarber had been homerless for 10 games since his four-home run outburst. As Suarez mentioned, the Phillies players and fans, even Schwarber himself, were all waiting for the slugger to hit his 50th this season. He said, “Finally,” once he hit his 50th homer.

Lastly, Rob Thomson, the Phillies manager, also praised Schwarber. “I mean, what a year he’s had, and it couldn’t happen to a better guy.”

Reaching 50 home runs is an incredible feat, and Schwarber received plenty of praise for reaching such a milestone. But as Thomson alludes to, Scwharber isn’t just a great ball player, he’s an even better teammate.

He’s beloved by the fan base and the clubhouse in Philadelphia, and has been beloved wherever he’s gone in his career. Not only did he receive plenty of praise from his teammates for his on-field heroics, but also for his off-field character.

When a player as good as Schwarber is also as beloved a teammate as Schwarber, evidenced by the quotes from Thomson and Suarez, it’s even more special when he reaches a milestone like this.

It’s been an incredible season for the Phillies and Schwarber, with hopefully more to come this October. But for now, the Phillies celebrated Schwarber’s 50th home run, taking the chance to praise the slugger for not just his hitting ability, but also his impact off-field.
