West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo has caused a West Ham meltdown with an absurd lineup against Leeds

West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo has caused a West Ham meltdown on social media yet again with his team selection against Leeds.

West Ham fans thought it couldn’t get any worse after losing 2-0 to Brentford at the London Stadium on Monday. However, just four days after we could be on for something worse as Nuno has picked yet another strange starting XI.

West Ham XI vs Leeds: Areola ; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Scarles, Diouf ; Irving, Soucek ; Summerville, Paqueta, Bowen.

Telegraph reporter Jacob Steinberg believes it’s going to be a back four with Scarles at right-back, Wan-Bissaka at left-back and Diouf on the left wing. This would mean it’s the exact same system as Monday with Bowen on the right and Summerville and Bowen playing centrally, almost like a front two.

This wouldn’t make any sense as just yesterday Nuno said Paqueta needs more pace ahead of him, to play him up front again wouldn’t make sense.

What would make sense would be a 5-2-1-2 with AWB and Diouf as wing-backs and Scarles at LCB, in Aaron Cresswell’s old role. This would allow Paqueta to play as a number 10 behind Bowen and Summerville as almost split strikers.

Hopefully it’s the second system, however, whatever system we play with these players probably isn’t going to end in a positive result. Irving and Soucek as a midfield two just isn’t going to work and we saw that on Monday evening.

The fact Nuno has opted to go without a striker and leave both Wilson and Marshall on the bench is very controversial. Also, leaving both Magassa and Potts on the bench when our midfield got tore apart by Jordan Henderson isn’t good.

It’s hard to rip into Nuno already because we want it to work, and we want him to keep us up. But the team selection on Monday and again tonight is bewildering. Let’s hope we’re all proven wrong by Nuno and we put a great performance in and get our second win this season, but it’s not looking promising.
