Regis Le Bris delivers Sunderland team news ahead of Liverpool clash with Dennis Cirkin & Noah Sadiki updates

Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris has delivered a team news update ahead of his side’s trip to Liverpool on Wednesday evening, suggesting that he has no new injury concerns to contend with.

The Black Cats travel to Anfield in midweek looking to build on a dramatic comeback victory over Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, fighting back from two goals down to secure a 3-2 win.

For their part, Liverpool recorded just their third victory in 13 matches with a comfortable 2-0 win over West Ham at the London Stadium. Arne Slot’s men are now eighth in the table, one point behind Sunderland heading into Wednesday’s encounter.

And speaking in a pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Le Bris suggested that his side boast a relatively clean bill of health at the present moment in time. When asked if his side had any new injury issues to worry about, the head coach responded: “No, nothing.”

Le Bris was also quizzed on Dennis Cirkin and Leo Hjelde, both of whom stepped up their respective recoveries from lengthy injury absences with more minutes for the U21s on Monday evening. Addressing the pair’s progress, he said: “They are really close, which is good news. Like Romaine [Mundle], one week before. So it’s really important to have everyone connected and in the best shape so they are ready.”

On Mundle, who made his first appearance of the season against Bournemouth at the weekend, Le Bris added: “It’s important because we know the wingers are important in our system, I think in every system, because you need creative, impactful, strong 1v1 players. And I think he’s one of these players.

“He struggled for a long period last season because of his injury. Getting back after this surgery, his mindset is perfect because he’s a big challenger at the minute. So really important for us. Good for the competition as well, because we need definitely these two or three players able to be competitive, one against them. So it shows that if you are not at your best, the other can be on the pitch and pushes you all the time.”

Le Bris also admitted that Noah Sadiki had “suffered” in the aftermath of the elbow he received from Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook on Saturday – a challenge that ultimately led to the 28-year-old’s dismissal. Nevertheless, the Frenchman suggested the DR Congo international will be fit to face Liverpool in midweek.

He said: “Yeah, he [Sadiki] suffered and it’s still the case now. So, he will be okay for Wednesday, but yeah, he suffered.”
