An explanation has been given for the penalty awarded against Nottingham Forest in their Premier League clash with Fulham on Monday night.
The Reds went into the half-time interval a goal down at Craven Cottage. Raul Jimenez’s penalty – in added-time – was all that separated the two sides.
Jimenez had been given the opportunity to score from the spot when Douglas Luiz was penalised for his foul on Kevin. Referee Anthony Taylor awarded the penalty and the decision was cleared following a VAR check.
The Premier League’s Match Centre explained the decision on X. Their post read: “#FULNFO – 45+2′ The referee’s call of penalty was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed that the contact was sufficient for a foul.”
Goalkeeper John Victor was, in turn, sent the wrong way by Jimenez. It was the only shot on target of a first half where the visitors had a fair few chances, but struggled to make the most of them.
The Reds were looking to make it three wins on the spin when they made the trip to the capital. They had toppled Utrecht in the Europa League and Tottenham Hotspur at the City Ground prior to their journey south.
Recent history was not in Forest;s favour prior to kick-off, with Craven Cottage not a happy hunting ground for the club in the Premier League. Three visits to this particular corner of the capital since both sides were promoted in 2022 had yielded three defeats for the Reds – by an aggregate score-line of 9-1, just to underline the task ahead of Dyche.
