Steelers Get More Bad News Amid Aaron Rodgers Holdout

The NFL draft sits just three days away and the Pittsburgh Steelers might be rethinking their first round pick after some unfortunate news.

Former first-round left tackle Broderick Jones reportedly suffered a setback from a neck injury he sustained last season, despite previous reports indicating he was ahead of schedule in his recovery. ESPN’s Adam Schefter even suggested Jones might not be ready for the start of the season.

“Steelers left tackle Broderick Jones suffered a setback to the neck injury he sustained last season, and is scheduled to be examined this week to determine whether he will be ready for training camp and/or the start of the season,” Schefter reported on Monday.

The news of Jones’ setback comes as the Steelers are still waiting on word from Aaron Rodgers about the 2026 season. Owner Art Rooney II previously set the expectation that Rodgers would give the team clarity on his plans ahead of the NFL draft, but recent reports indicate that won’t happen.

As such, Schefter hinted the Steelers would need to rethink their strategy in the first round, either focusing on quarterback or offensive line if Jones isn’t ready for the start of the season.

“If Rodgers has not informed the team by Thursday night that he does in fact intend to return, Pittsburgh will need to have conversations about whether Simpson is in play with the No. 21 pick,” Schefter wrote. “But either way, the team is looking at taking a QB somewhere over the course of seven rounds.”

The NFL draft begins with Round 1 on Thursday, April 23 at 8 p.m. ET
