‘I can’t move freely’ – Fulham midfielder Iwobi admits he’s frustrated over hamstring injury

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has provided an update on the hamstring injury he suffered during the first half of the Premier League meeting with Brentford on April 18.

Due to the setback, the Nigeria international was not called up for the last three matches played by the Cottagers in the top-flight.

Against Brentford, Iwobi was forced off shortly before half-time after pulling up unchallenged while chasing a loose ball.

The midfielder headed straight down the tunnel after being replaced by Samuel Chukwueze.

The Super Eagles star revealed that he has been trying to remain active despite the discomfort.

Speaking on the Alexander Yaa Digg podcast, Iwobi said: “I’m just walking through my neighborhoods, going through the shops. Obviously, the reason why I’m doing this is to get some blood flow and oxygen into the legs, make sure my legs are not just indoors, and keep active,” Alex Iwobi said.

“Right now, as it stands, I have got a hamstring injury, so I’m going to keep on the move and get my steps in. It’s unfortunate to get a hamstring injury. I appreciate the support and the love that everyone’s showing me, and everyone checking on me.

“As of now, I don’t know how bad it is. I’m able to walk, though I’ve got a limp, so that’s a positive. I’ve got a scan soon. So by the time this video is out, I would have had my results, so I’m praying for a speedy recovery.”

Iwobi also opened up on the emotional toll injuries can have on footballers, admitting that being sidelined has left him frustrated.

“I’m just grateful that I don’t really get injured on a regular basis because it is mentally challenging. Even me, now that I’m injured, I’m just fuming. I can’t be active, I can’t move freely. But that’s life; it is part of the game.”

This season, Iwobi has made 27 appearances in the Premier League, recording four goals and three assists, while logging 2,279 minutes.
