Santiago Castro has now had two full seasons with Bologna and has attracted Nottingham Forest’s interest.
The Argentine has turned out to be the Rossoblu’s replacement for Joshua Zirkzee. The Dutchman left for Manchester United in the summer of 2024, six months after Castro joined Bologna in January 2024.
The 21-year-old has now played 79 times in Serie A, finding the net 16 times and assisting nine goals.
While not always consistent, he has shown a nose for goal, drawing comparisons to Lautaro Martinez.
Bologna could be open to deal
Quotidiano Sportivo note that the British press has spoken of the Midlands’ club interest in the South American. They add their own information, reporting that Nottingham Forest have ‘tested the waters’ for him.
So far, no formal offers have arrived.
The outlet also highlights the positive relationship between the two clubs. They dealt with each other during the swap for Nicolas Dominguez and Remo Freuler. Nottingham Forest also signed Dan Ndoye last summer and this can help in a move for Castro.
Competition is likely to grow, though. Aston Villa and Chelsea have been scouting the Argentine.
Bologna desperate for sale
Domenico Tedesco is the new manager at Bologna, who have missed out on European qualification. That is one reason why they appear keen on selling some key players.
Castro is one option and is also their highest-valued player right now. His sale will go down as a huge capital gain and Bologna would love it, if a Premier League side move for him.
While he has qualities, he hasn’t shown it on a consistent basis. That should be one sticking point that will concern Nottingham Forest.
Bologna usually sell for over €40m but that amount could be too much this time around. Ndoye was a much more proven player and Castro could do well with another season at Bologna.
