Frank rules himself out of Fulham job as McKenna remains bookies’ favourite

This summer’s Premier League manager merry-go-round has had another update, with Thomas Frank revealing he will continue to take a break from the game.

Since the 2025/26 season ended, new managers have been installed at Liverpool (Adoni Iraola), Chelsea (Xabi Alonso) and Bournemouth (Marco Rose), with vacancies to fill at Manchester City, Fulham and Crystal Palace.

Kieran McKenna, having led Ipswich Town back to the top flight at the first time of asking, securing his third promotion in four years, has been installed as the bookies’ favourite to replace Marco Silva at Fulham.

Ex-Brentford boss Frank, who was sacked by Tottenham in February, is second on that list, but he’s now revealed that he does not plan to return to management this summer.

A statement reads: “Time away from the touchline is allowing me to broaden my perspective and gather insights that I look forward to bringing into my next challenge.

“There have been conversations and opportunities since leaving Spurs, but I have decided not to rush into the next role. For me, this summer is not the right time to go back into management.

“When the time is right, I will look forward to my return as a manager, ready to embrace the job with great energy and dedication.”

The EADT and Ipswich Star understands that Cottagers owner Sahid Khan is a big admirer of McKenna, but it remains to be seen if the West London club like him enough to pay an £8m release clause and, if that was the case, whether the Northern Irishman could be persuaded to leave the ever-improving Blues, a settled life in Suffolk and lucrative contract for an established Premier League outfit.

Out of work managers Arne Slot, Oliver Glasner, Liam Rosenior and Ruben Amorim have also been linked to the Fulham job.

After Silva turned down a new deal to end a five-year stay at Craven Cottage, ahead of an expected move to Benfica, owner Khan said: “We’ve accordingly prepared for this moment. The talent in our squad, our historic home ground of Craven Cottage, our faithful supporters, and my commitment to backing the club, all make Fulham an extraordinarily attractive destination for an incoming head coach.

“We will soon appoint a new leader in a timely but deliberate manner, who will meet the standards of our club and expectations of our fans throughout the world.”

Europa Conference League winners Crystal Palace, meanwhile, are reportedly in talks to hire Pierre Sage as their new boss. The Frenchman has just guided Lyon to a second place finish in Ligue 1, as well as a Coupe de France triumph.

Manchester City are expected to replace legendary boss Pep Guardiola with his former assistant, and recent Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca.
