Wolves to trade Randle to Nets; Claxton off to Bulls

The Minnesota Timberwolves are sending three-time All-Star Julius Randle and the No. 28 pick in Tuesday’s NBA draft to the Brooklyn Nets as part of a three-team trade, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Monday night.

The deal also will see Nic Claxton go from the Nets to the Chicago Bulls, sources told ESPN. The Timberwolves, meanwhile, will acquire the No. 33 pick in the draft from Brooklyn.

The trade comes almost a year after Randle agreed to a three-year, $100 million deal to stay with Minnesota. Now, he’ll return to New York after playing five seasons with the Knicks before they sent him to the Timberwolves as part of the Karl-Anthony Towns deal in October 2024.

Minnesota frees up significant salary with the remaining two years of Randle’s deal, giving them more flexibility to retain Ayo Dosunmu and use exceptions.
