Doug King claims Coventry City’s home form will be ‘critical’ to their Premier League survival chances.
The Sky Blues romped to the Championship title last season, winning the league by 11 points and with weeks to spare.
A central pillar to the whole campaign was their form at the CBS Arena where they won 17 of their 23 matches, lost just twice and amassed an impressive 55 points.
King called on the Sky Blues faithful to help them to maintain their results in front of their own supporters – and believes even if City don’t stay up they will be forgiven by loyal supporters.
“I think it’s going to be hard, but I think it’s hard to get out of the league,” King told BBC CWR.
“We’ve done that and getting out and then popping back again, isn’t obviously on our agenda.
“We know it’s likely, seven out of the last nine have been relegated, so it’s a huge challenge.
“That’s why I think I took quite a bit of time trying to reflect on that and how we might approach it in a way that suited us and got us into a positive position to achieve that.
“Home form will be huge, we will need everybody there, we made it unbelievable last year, the atmosphere, bringing everybody all my friends and colleagues who hadn’t been to Coventry before, the noise, the atmosphere, the whole feel of it, it’s quite special.
“I think we’ve got to make it that way [again] because our home form will be critical for us to achieve another year in the Premier League.
“The fans have been incredible, I can feel the excitement. It’s a good two months to go, there’s a lot of excitement.
“First game, Arsenal away, but look, they saw how we played last year, they saw how we’re handling ourselves in the last three-four years, and what we’re doing in development and infrastructure and improving what we have as a great city.
“I think they like that, and if it doesn’t work, then OK, it doesn’t work, but I think they will forgive that if we do all the right things and push all the right buttons and give it our best shot.”
