Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has issued a hands-off warning for his captain Granit Xhaka and told Chelsea to forget about signing him this summer.
The Swiss international was instrumental as the Black Cats finished in the European spots on their return to Premier League football last season – and Chelsea have tried to buy him. But boss Le Bris says there is now no chance of Xhaka leaving.
‘No, this topic is closed,’ said the Frenchman when asked about Xhaka.
‘He has been really clear about his future. He loves Sunderland, he wants to stay in Sunderland. He wants to make the future of Sunderland. He is a good captain. A great leader.’
Daily Mail Sport reported earlier this month how Chelsea had an £8m bid rejected and dismissed as insulting. Although the 33-year-old was attracted by the prospect of reuniting with Xabi Alonso – having enjoyed a successful spell under him at Bayer Leverkusen – Xhaka reaffirmed his commitment to Sunderland following discussions with the club.
