Nottingham Forest 27-year-old to leave next after Moussa Niakhate – sources

Joe Worrall is expected to be the next first-team player to leave Nottingham Forest after the departure of Moussa Niakhate.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the club will now look to invest in new signings to strengthen their defensive unit.

Niakhate finalised his £27million move to Lyon on 4 July, and with Worrall set to follow him out of the door, Nuno Espirito Santo will be left with just three centre-backs.

Murillo, meanwhile, has also attracted interest from the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham, as reported by Football Insider.

Forest are set to be active in the transfer window, with Evangelos Marinakis keen to invest and strengthen the playing squad.

Joe Worrall next to quit Nottingham Forest after transfer twist

Worrall, 27, has been at Forest since 2011 and has come through the academy set-up to make 226 appearances for his boyhood club.

He has fallen out of favour in recent years and spent the second half of last season on loan at Turkish giants Besiktas, where he made just nine appearances.

Football Insider revealed on 28 June that an offer of around £5million would seal Worrall’s exit, with Forest looking to shed players off of their wage bill.

The club were concerned about profit and sustainability breaches in June before the exits of Niakhate and Orel Mangala, both to Lyon, eased those concerns.

However, they remain keen to cut their wage bill to make room for incoming signings and are desperate to avoid facing further sanctions for financial breaches in the future.

This comes after the club was handed a four-point deduction in the Premier League last season.

Worrall has been earmarked as one of the players who they will cash in on this summer, while interest remains in the likes of Murillo, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Morgan Gibbs-White.
