Oliver Glasner could be sacked by Nottingham Forest “at any moment” amid a tense atmosphere at the City Ground.
This comes in the wake of their 1-0 defeat to newly-promoted Coventry City, as Frank Lampard’s side picked up their first points of the season thanks to a Jay Dasilva winner.
Nottingham Forest have now won just one of their first five Premier League games this season, and were knocked out of the League Cup after a defeat against Leeds United.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that trigger-happy Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was expecting more from his side’s performances this season.
Glasner, meanwhile, also has a track record when it comes to falling out with his previous clubs and there are concerns that the two could clash if results do not improve.
While any decision is unlikely to be made imminently, given the efforts taken to bring Glasner to the City Ground, there is an expectatiton that their results must improve.
Could Nottingham Forest sack Oliver Glasner?
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness warned Football Insider as early as July that Glasner could be sacked by Nottingham Forest if results do not go to plan in the early stages of his tenure.
There is a feeling that, given the manager’s history as well as that of Marinakis, the pair are destined to clash at some point during the season.
After a difficult run of results so far, failure to improve after the international break may accelerate those concerns, and could lead to Glasner losing his position.
“Everybody knows how good of a manager Oliver Glasner is, it’s no secret,” Brown told Football Insider.
“He did a wonderful job at Crystal Palace and he’s very highly thought of, but the problem he’s going to have at Nottingham Forest is that he can be quite combative.
“He’s not afraid to speak out when he feels there are issues, and knowing the owner at Forest, that won’t go down well if or when it does happen.
“He can be quite trigger happy, and while I’m sure he wants to back Glasner despite the slow start, he will be expecting an upturn in their performances sooner rather than later.
“He has big demands for Nottingham Forest, he expects them to be winning every week, and when that is not the case, there is going to be pressure.
“So there’s a volatile atmosphere there, either the manager or the owner could blow up and Glasner could be sacked at any moment if there is a disagreement and things don’t improve.”
What would it cost for Forest to sack Glasner?
One issue which is likely to fall on Glasner’s side in the event of any decision about his future at the club is the value of his contract and a potentially major payout.
The boss put pen to paper on a three-year deal at the City Ground, and is being paid a reported £13million per year, making him one of the best-paid bosses in the Premier League.
As a result, Wyness told Football Insider following the manager’s appointment in July that Glasner could look for a lucrative “insurance policy” if things do not go well.
The finances involved in his contract have made the situation “worth it” for Glasner, even if he faces the sack in the near future after a slow start to life at the City Ground.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has a reputation for demanding success, but Wyness believes that Glasner and his team have already covered his tracks.
