Manager Álvaro Arbeloa discussed the form of his attacking players during Friday’s press conference ahead of Fulham’s Premier League meeting with Coventry City at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Sitting 18th in the table after securing a 1-0 victory over Hull City last weekend, Fulham have averaged just one goal per game across their first seven matches in the English top flight.
Iwobi has contributed to that tally, with the Nigeria international scoring in the first half against Hull City to secure the Cottagers’ first win of the campaign.
Only Nottingham Forest, Sunderland, Coventry City and Tottenham Hotspur have scored fewer goals than Fulham so far this season.
Arbeloa defended his attacking players, noting that strikers can experience contrasting spells in front of goal, with some matches proving difficult while in others they seem to convert almost every opportunity.
The Spanish tactician told reporters: “For a striker especially, there are moments when they don’t score easy goals, and after some games, they score with every touch they make in the box. You never know.
“They need to challenge themselves; that is very important because, for me, they are doing so well. Goals are the consequence of a good squad. So, for me, Gonzalo, Oscar, Alex (Iwobi), Rodrigo, all our attacking players are doing well.

“Good work, so they need to continue doing the same things. And we will work on finishing during the training sessions.”
Since his arrival at Fulham in the summer of 2023, Iwobi has scored 20 goals in all competitions, a tally he failed to reach despite making more appearances for both Arsenal and Everton.
