The Dallas Mavericks GM shares a strong opinion on the Klay Thompson signing

Klay Thompson is gearing up for a fresh chapter with the Dallas Mavericks. He’s joining a team that came close to winning the NBA Finals last season, falling just three wins short.

Mavericks GM Nico Harrison expressed his enthusiasm about adding Thompson. He discussed the team’s major offseason move in an interview with ESPN during the Mavericks Summer League game against the Utah Jazz on Saturday.

“For us, it was an obvious decision, especially after the finals. We knew that adding Klay Thompson was the missing piece.”

The Mavericks lost the NBA Finals series to the Boston Celtics in five games. Now, they’re bolstering their lineup with Thompson alongside Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

Thompson recently talked about teaming up with the duo.

“I’ve known Kyrie for a long time,” Thompson said. “Since I first met him, he’s been very genuine. A really humble person. For him to come here, embrace the city, and embrace his role, it’s been inspiring for me. They were so close to winning it all. I believe we can help them get over that final hurdle.”

“He (Doncic) texted me, expressing his excitement,” Thompson said. “I replied with the same enthusiasm. There’s definitely mutual respect there. I remember seeing him after the 2022 Western Finals, and I told him how much I admire his game, how he lifts his teammates up. He has limitless potential. I think he appreciated hearing that.”
