Newcastle linked to one of the biggest names in European football

Newcastle haven’t made many huge splashes on the transfer market despite having as much financial power as any club in world football, as their biggest additions were attackers Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak, as well as midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

But that’s the thing, Newcastle have spent smartly and were richly rewarded in their first season under the new ownership group, qualifying for the 2023/24 Champions League.

Yet Newcastle were eliminated in the group stages of the Champions League and could only finish seventh in the Premier League this season, taking a step backwards.

Newcastle need to make a big move or two in the summer 2024 transfer window, and after already reaching out with interest in Bundesliga breakout superstar Xavi Simons, the Magpies are being linked to an arguably bigger name in the German top flight.

Per a report from The Mirror, Newcastle are considering spending 40 million pounds to sign Bayern Munich star Serge Gnabry, who is one of a trio of talented wingers the Bavarian giants are considering selling – along with Kingsley Coman and Leroy Sane.

Gnabry was on the Real Madrid radar as recently as the summer 2022 transfer window before signing an extension with Bayern, but he has remained in the crosshairs of the press for inconsistent performances and not living up to his world-class talent.

Capable of playing anywhere on the front line, Gnabry was a hero in the 2019/20 season when Bayern Munich won the treble, and at 29 years old, he is still in the theoretical prime of his career.

If Newcastle can actually finagle a transfer for less than 40 million pounds, Gnabry could be worth it, and based on the negotiations between Bayern and Manchester United, Die Roten could be willing to let a transfer bargain slip, especially if they find it difficult to acquire suitors for their full trio of sellable wingers.

Gnabry can replace Miguel Almiron on the right side of the attack or rotate with Gordon, the best left winger in the Premier League, on the left.

Although Gnabry isn’t without risk due to his injury history and wage cost, the former Premier League product at Arsenal could wake up and return to his Champions League dominance with a transfer that lights a fire under him mentally,
