Nevada baseball’s JR Freethy selected by Blue Jays in MLB Draft

Nevada outfielder JR Freethy has been selected by the Toronto Blue Jays with the 427th overall pick of the 2024 MLB Draft.

Freethy joins fellow Wolf Pack baseball player Jason Doktorczyk in the MLB. Doktorczyk was taken in the ninth round of the draft by the Minnesota Twins.

The switch hitter from Rocklin, California finished his third season as a member of the Wolf Pack in 2024. This past season, Freethy was one of just two Nevada players to appear in all 51 games, starting 50 of them.

He batted .303, led the team in the runs scored with 45 and on base percentage with .414. He also shared the team lead in triples with three and tied for second on the team in home runs with 10 and was second in slugging at .579. Freethy also drove in 37 runs and had 18 doubles.
