Jets Aaron Rodgers blames ‘irritating’ questioner for creating Devante Adams trade rumors

Earlier this month, rumors swirled about a potential Jets-Devante Adams trade, and the seemingly endless headlines surrounding the star receiver potentially coming to New York were ignited after quarterback Aaron Rodgers answered a question while golfing in Lake Tahoe.

“I love Davante,” Rodgers had said, adding, “I can’t wait to play with him … again.”

But speaking to reporters after the Jets’ seventh practice of training camp on Wednesday, Rodgers provided a little more background on the comment he made at the American Century Championship.

“I do love Devante,” Rodgers said. “That particular guy (who asked the question) was a tad bit irritating. Just somebody who’s asking the same question over and over, and you give him something hoping he’ll go away.”

And Rodgers’ excuse for what he meant when he said he can’t wait to play with Adams again?

“I think I was talking about golf,” he said with a smile.

That answer may not be very convincing, but it will put all of the rumors to rest for now.

Rodgers played with Adams from 2014 to 2021 and has never been shy about saying the three-time All Pro is his his all-time favorite receiver. In the final four years of the Adams-Rodgers duo in Green Bay, Adams averaged 14.5 touchdowns per season.
