Celtic in the race to sign Brighton’s Facundo Buonanotte

It is reported that Southampton are also keen on the attacking midfielder, but Celtic are said to have the advantage due to Brighton’s talks over Matt O’Riley.

It seemed as though Buonanotte would be playing his football at Feyenoord this season but they pulled out of the deal, giving Celtic the perfect chance to swoop in.

The promising 19-year-old has made 50 senior appearances for the Seagulls and has won two senior caps for his country, Argentina. During his time with Brighton, he has scored five goals and has two assists.

He has been compared to footballing legend Lionel Messi, with Carlos Tevez saying: “The way he brakes and accelerates reminds me a lot of Messi. It has been a long time since I’ve seen a boy play like that, giving me so much pleasure, and I watch a lot of football.”

Tevez added: “He has a great mentality. He is at a high level and I don’t think he has a ceiling. He can go as high as he wants.”

This certainly seems like a deal that the Celts could be interested in getting over the line. If O’Riley were to go, there is a real chance that Brendan Rodgers could look to Buonanotte as a potential replacement.

The Argentine is said to be valued at around £15m which could prove to be a bargain if he reaches the heights that he is predicted.

In other news, a BBC reporter has claimed that Matt O’Riley would be “happy” to join Southampton as opposed to Brighton.
