Panthers Waive DB After Failed Physical

The Carolina Panthers are one of the many NFL teams this time of year that is continuing to make roster tweaks here or there as their first preseason game approaches.

The latest roster move that they made was the waiving of defensive back Caden Sterns.

According to Panthers insider Mike Kaye, the team waived Sterns with a failed physical designation.

Sterns started his NFL career with the Denver Broncos in 2021 after they drafted him in the fifth round out of Texas.

He spent three years there playing in a total of 21 games and starting in five of them.

Before playing just one game last season, he was a quality role player and depth piece on Denver’s defense recording multiple interceptions in each of his first two seasons.

Sterns was released by Denver earlier this month which made way for him to be claimed by Carolina.

Now, he will look for another opportunity with a new team.

Still just 24 years of age and with the previous starting experience that he has, some teams could certainly give him an opportunity.

Carolina has plenty of quality defensive backs on the roster, so the waiving of Sterns was not a killer move.

The likes of Jaycee Horn, Jordan Fuller, Xavier Words, Nick Scott, and Troy Hill are all experienced defensive backs with starting experience.

With the amount of depth that the Panthers have on their backend, it was unlikely that Sterns would have gotten some real playing time anyway.

Look for moves from this evolving Carolina squad as time moves on in the preseason.
