Neal Maupay makes honest Everton exit admission to Peter Crouch

Neal Maupay is “enjoying myself” at Everton amid recent speculation linking him with a move to Ligue 1 side Marseille.

L’Equipe reported on 20 August that Maupay and his entourage are interested in the option of leaving Everton before the transfer window closes.

Maupay was asked directly about the Everton exit talk on the That Peter Crouch Podcast [21 August, 5m 50s] by the former Liverpool and England striker.

“I’m enjoying myself,” he said of his Everton future. “Last season was a big boost for me.

“I went back to a place where I knew everyone and my confidence went back up again. Now I’m back here and ready to play.

“In football you never know what tomorrow will be, but for sure I’m ready to go and looking forward to the season.”

Neal Maupay’s future surely lies away from Everton

Maupay basically said what he had to. The Frenchman could not have just come out and said he is eager to move to Marseille before 30 August.

All the speculation in France suggests that everything is moving towards a move to Ligue 1, but it has to be on the Toffees’ terms.

Agreeing a loan deal with Marseille without an obligation to buy is just plain silly. Only a permanent sale will make sense for the Blues.

If that is not the case, it is then on Sean Dyche to integrate Maupay into his side until at least the January transfer window.

While Maupay is not going to be the first-choice pick up top, he can still play a part as the season goes on.

Ideally, though, Marseille will make an offer for a permanent transfer, Everton accept and then put that money towards finding another attacker.
