Eddie Howe drops transfer bombshell in pre-match press conference

Eddie Howe faced the media this morning ahead of Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup trip to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest tomorrow.

There was very little attention paid to tomorrow’s fixture in the press briefing with the transfer window just days away from slamming shut as we watched the presser on the Newcastle United App.

Eddie Howe was pressed for answers on Marc Guehi which he swerved with his usual “I’m not going to comment on individual players” comment.

However, he was asked one key question that many fans wanted an answer to, but may now be wishing it was never asked.

It’s one or the other for Newcastle this week

Fans have been hoping for a centre-back and a right winger in this window and were holding out hope that there would still be time to get those two players in before the window closes, whoever they may be.

When asked if the club would be bringing in a player for both positions before Friday’s deadline, Howe seemed very confident in his response.

“Probably not, no”

Surely there’s room in the budget for a loan move

It seems as if my personal nightmare is set to come true with Newcastle having to rely on Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy for another season.

If anything, this just reinforces the point we made yesterday about needing to play Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes either side of Alexander Isak.

Or, going in with a loan deal for a winger either Noni Madueke or Jadon Sancho, or one of Chelsea’s other 50 wingers.
