Leeds in negotiations to sign Japan international Ao Tanaka

It has been a busy transfer window at Leeds United as they have brought in six new faces to Elland Road this summer.

Manor Solomon is their latest signing following the arrivals of Joe Rodon, Largie Ramazani, Jayden Bogle, Alex Cairns, and Joe Rothwell.

However, the Whites are not done yet as they are in negotiations with German side Fortuna Dusseldorf over a move for Ao Tanaka, per journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

It is said the midfielder is keen to join the Championship outfit.

Tanaka started his career in Japan with Kawasaki Frontale, where he won three J1 League titles.

He signed for Fortuna Dusseldorf in 2021 initially on loan that was later made permanent.

The 25-year-old has made 95 appearances for the Bundesliga 2 side, with 10 goals and eight assists to his name.

He has also earned 27 caps for the Japan national team and scored eight goals.

Tanaka hasn’t been tested in a top club competition but he could be a shrewd signing for Leeds.

The Japanese footballer can play a variety of roles in midfield but he mainly operates as a central midfielder. He is highly rated for his work-rate, technique and an eye for goal.

Daniel Farke’s side have made an unconvincing start to the new Championship season as they have picked up just five points from their opening three matches.

The Whites suffered two draws at the hands of Portsmouth and West Bromwich Albion but sealed a comfortable victory at Sheffield Wednesday.

A few more quality additions before the transfer deadline could boost their chances to secure Premier League promotion.
