Last week, Ravens General Manager Eric DeCosta said moves were on the horizon to get salary cap compliant. Now, they’ve gone through with a restructure to free up cap space by adjusting inside linebacker Roquan Smith’s contract.

According to cap projection websites overthecap and Spotrac, the Ravens were $3.8 million and $4.41 million over the cap, respectively.
The move doesn’t free them up to make any moves. According to overthecap, after Smith’s restructure they remain above the cap by $166k.

If this is accurate, a second move to become cap compliant will be needed. A third may be necessary too, if the Ravens are wanting to add a free agent or execute a deadline deal. DeCosta acknowledged as much last week.
“But at some point we will have to make some moves in the coming days and weeks and we’ve been planning for all that. So, there’s a lot of things we’ll be able to do,” DeCosta said. “We will be cap compliant and we will have at least some money to spend if a player is available that we think will help us be the best team we can be.”
