The Cleveland Browns beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 18-13 on Sunday to spoil the Jags’ 2023 home opener on Sunday.
The Browns got the win but also received some bad news after wideout David Bell was taken off the field during the game with an injury.
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski announced Bell dislocated his hip in the third quarter, but will be able to fly home to Cleveland with the team.
Before his injury, Bell tallied three catches for 27 yards against the Jags. Bell wasn’t the only injury in the game as defensive lineman Ogbo Okoronkwo will be evaluated for a head injury.
Quarterback Deshaun Watson had a touchdown run and kicker Dustin Hopkins kicked three field goals as the Browns’ defense held the Jaguars to just 13 points. Jags quarterback Trevor Lawrence was sacked four times on a rainy and dingy day in Jacksonville.
The Jaguars renamed EverBank Stadium to TrEverBank Stadium in a marketing ploy before the game to honor their quarterback. Lawrence’s day was so sour that he was spotted by TV cameras arguing with his coach, Doug Peterson, on the sideline.
Watson finished the day 22-of-34 for 186 yards.
The 1-1 Browns will face the 0-2 New York Giants back at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland on Sunday.
