Aston Villa were handsome 3-0 winners over Young Boys on Tuesday night as Leon Bailey was named in the squad following injury.
Leon Bailey suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-1 win over Leicester City before the international break and wasn’t fit enough to make the bench against Everton at the weekend.
Aston Villa secured a dramatic 3-2 over the Toffees, with Jhon Duran scoring a stunning winner, as Bailey was forced to watch on.
Unai Emery then confirmed on Tuesday that the Jamaican winger was fit enough to make the bench for their Champions League clash against Young Boys.
Villa secured a comfortable 3-0 win in Switzerland and Bailey was an unused substitute, with Emery now set to decide on the 27-year-old’s inclusion in the starting XI ahead of Wolves.
Jacob Ramsey stars in Aston Villa’s win vs Young Boys
Academy graduate Jacob Ramsey was the man who replaced Bailey when he went off injured in the win at the King Power Stadium.
Ramsey started on the left flank but interchanged with Morgan Rogers throughout and continued in the starting XI against Young Boys.
The 23-year-old was one of Emery’s standout performers on Tuesday night, scoring Villa’s second and impressing with his all-round display.
Ramsey’s ‘unique’ talent saw him show rapid thinking in the half spaces and an exceptional threat in the box, with the Englishman providing three key passes, a 95% pass completion and a combined expected goals and assists of 1.01.
To put it simply, the Aston Villa academy product has made himself undroppable from the starting XI and not even the return of Bailey should see him benched against Wolves.
Jacob Ramsey must start vs Wolves
In Villa’s first three Premier League games, Emery started with a front four of Bailey, Morgan Rogers, John McGinn and Ollie Watkins.
Bailey failed to score or assist in each of those games, while Ramsey came off the bench against West Ham to assist the winner and has arguably played better than his teammate this term.
There’s no doubt that the former Bayer Leverkusen man was exceptional last season and his place on the right flank was always guaranteed.
However, on current form, it has to be said that Ramsey deserves a place in the starting XI and he’s the candidate you could see making way for Bailey, as McGinn and Rogers are nailed-on starters.
With that said, Emery should perhaps keep with the same front four that started against Young Boys when Wolves visit Villa Park.
