Clippers veteran views Paul George’s departure as a hidden opportunity

Paul George’s decision to take his talents to the 76ers has been one of the biggest talking points of the current off-season. The nine-time All-Star’s decision left the Clippers Nation dismayed, given the failed expectations from the 213 era. Things look bleak for the Ballmer franchise heading into 2024-25.

However, former Clippers player Baron Davis has a completely contrasting take. Batting for his friend PG, the two-time All-Star believed there could be some upside to the Clips’ situation, considering the few signings made over the last couple of weeks.

According to Davis, George’s exit could help Kawhi and Harden elevate their games by giving them more touches on the ball. The former Warriors guard also pointed out Michael Porter Jr. as possibly being the surprise package.

Davis seemed impressed with the Clippers’ front office’s work this off-season. Adding influential players Derrick Jones Jr., Michael Porter Jr., Mo Bamba, Nicolas Batum, and Kris Dunn to the roster could help the team find a new path to success.

“Paul George is my dawg. That’s my brother, and so I’m always player-first. And for the Clippers, who knows, sometimes it can be a blessing in disguise because it forces you now actually to play through Kawhi and James Harden,” Davis told Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson.

The two-time All-Star expanded on his point, “So you have two superstars, and you pick up some good players in free agency. I think they signed a sleeper in free agency, Kevin Porter Jr.” Having strengthened themselves on defense, the Clippers could feed off their underdog situation in the upcoming season, but only with the Kawhi-James duo contributing.
