After hearing back from the official PGMOL team, Steve Cooper is not impressed. The Leicester City boss has slammed the “awful” VAR decision.
VAR has very much changed the landscape of football over the last few seasons. Whether you love it or you hate it, it’s now here to stay. Last season, Leicester escaped VAR for some time but now, they are back under its tyranny.
Unsurprisingly, Leicester City have been hit with an awful VAR decision already this season. It was not one of their goals which were ruled out, but instead a goal they conceded which should have been ruled out.
Steve Cooper is not the type of manager to be quiet and the Leicester City boss has spoken out about the decision, calling for change.
Steve Cooper slams “awful” VAR decision and risks fine for Leicester’s sake
According to Sky Sports, Leicester City boss Steve Cooper is refusing to rest. Despite claiming to be over the decision, Cooper has insisted that he believes VAR made an awful decision and they used the wrong images to deem Crystal Palace’s goal onside.
In his own words, Steve Cooper said: “It was an awful human error. We have seen images that show he clearly was offside, but they froze it at the wrong time.”
Not only is Cooper perplexed by the decision being given but he is not happy with the follow-up from the Premier League. In fact, Cooper has outwardly stated that he’s been in contact with the Premier League about the wrong decision.
Following up, Cooper said: We showed the Premier League that they used the wrong image. We had a massive error go against us, errors like that shouldn’t happen… We felt very let down by it. We needed to stand up for the club and tell the Premier League what we thought.”
Even by being in contact with the Premier League, Steve Cooper is leaving himself at risk of being fined. We have seen in the past that when managers call out officials for wrong decisions, it often doesn’t end well for the managers.
However, from Leicester’s perspective, they should fully support Cooper. Say what you want about Leicester’s overall performance against Crystal Palace, the decision which went in favour of Palace was unjust and unfair. So, Cooper has every right to stand up for his new club.
Saying this about VAR feels like a broken record on loop, but changes need to happen.
