Mets’ Kodai Senga tosses two innings in return to the mound during NLDS Game 1 against Phillies

Mets right-hander Kodai Senga lasted just two innings as he made his return to the mound for Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday afternoon.

Senga was greeted rudely as Kyle Schwarber absolutely demolished a middle-middle fastball on just the third pitch he threw leading off the bottom of the first to give Philly the early lead.

He settled in very nicely after that, though, as he generated some swings-and-misses, picking up two strikeouts to help him work around a one out walk of Bryce Harper in the opening frame.

Senga returned to the mound for a second inning of work and he finished his afternoon strongly, picking up another strikeout with the signature ghost-forkball en route to a perfect inning.

Overall, he allowed just the one run on one hit while walking one and striking out three.

All things considered the Mets should certainly be happy with the effort, as the right-hander was able to stretch out to 31 pitches and he touched up to 97 mph on his fastball while generating three swings-and-misses in his first action in 10 weeks.

If this series were to come down to a win-or-go home Game 5, Senga would likely be able to toss at the very least five innings for the Mets.
