Jets Coaches Preaching Calm Despite Lackluster Starts

An ugly reality has set in for the New York Jets over the last two weeks – both ugly losses in games they should have won.

Their slow starts have directly impacted games that sunk them.

In their 10-9 loss to the Denver Broncos, their slow start was chalked up to a poor weather game. Duds happen all the time to teams – nothing to get overly concerned over. So what’s the excuse after this week?

New York fell into a 17-0 hole against the Minnesota Vikings in a game they ended up losing 23-17. A pick-six, three turnovers, and another eight-penalty day all highlight the same problems coming up for the Jets.

To head coach Robert Saleh, though, a 2-3 record heading into October isn’t quite the end of the world everyone is making it out to be.

“It’s early. We’re five games in. Obviously we’d like it to be a lot better, but it’s early and we’ve got a long way to go.

“You can always find silver linings. Not ready to talk with them now. I do appreciate that our guys battled and fought. We gave our receivers a chance right there. A chance to go score a touchdown at the end of the game and win it, but unfortunately it didn’t happen for us.”

Saleh may be technically correct that the season is obviously not over after five games, but with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback, things were supposed to be different.

When the defense gave up under 20 points, the offense needed to win each game. They’ve lost the last two and even have given up points in that stretch.

New York needs better starts in order to end their current losing streak. If they can’t figure that out, bigger questions may be coming for their coaching staff.
