Bears lose long snapper to injury early against Jaguars

The Chicago Bears went into Sunday’s game in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars without two defensive starters and quickly suffered another injury at a key spot.

Long snapper Scott Daly suffered a knee injury on Chicago’s second punt of the first quarter and was taken to the locker room. A short time later, the Bears officially ruled him out of the rest of the game.

That means tight end Cole Kmet, the club’s emergency long snapper, will be thrust into duty for the final three quarters.

Daly was already a replacement for Patrick Scales, who had back surgery at the end of training camp and forced the team to quickly find a replacement. Daly, 30, had spent the past few years with the Detroit Lions before the Bears scooped him up.

Based on how Chicago’s offense has looked early against the Jaguars, Kmet’s long snapping may get tested more than once as the Bears failed to get a first down in the first quarter.

While that may factor into some decisions the rest of the game, the good news for Chicago is they have a bye week after Sunday’s game, which will give the team a little extra time to determine the severity of Daly’s injury and find a replacement, if necessary.
