Remember in 2008 when Aaron Rodgers became the starter for the Green Bay Packers after Brett Favre left to retire, then realized he was having second thoughts, but it was a little too late to go back to Green Bay?
So then Favre ended up in the most unlikely of places, New York.
Favre’s one-year run as a New York Jet was less than satisfactory. In what many had hoped would be a year where the Jets could capitalize on a Tom Brady-less AFC East, the Jets finished third at 9-7 and missed the playoffs.
Favre would then return to the NFC North, this time as a Minnesota Viking and nearly getting the team to a Super Bowl in 2009.
Fast-forward to this season, which was supposed to be Rodgers’s big comeback after playing only four snaps as a Jet in 2023 before injuring his Achilles.
The two quarterbacks have had similar careers.
Favre, the Packers’ saving grace throughout the dismal 1990s, would leave for New York, and Aaron Rodgers would pick up his mantle and carry it on for another decade and a half. Both their exits from one of the first organizations in professional football were less than smooth.
Both their second acts in the Meadowlands have not been great, especially Rodgers.

Just look at the difference between the two in New York/New Jersey. Maybe this was never meant to be a good foot for either. Still, Favre at least was able to capture an above .500 record during his brief time as a Jet.
Despite Favre’s not-memorable stint, he still scored more points than Rodgers as a Jet in the first ten games and would also outdo him in passing yards.
Rodgers seems to come off like he doesn’t mind letting things slip away from the team despite all the weapons they have in 2024.
It’s hard to tell what exactly is plaguing the Jets this season. Some argue it’s Rodgers and his polarizing public persona. Favre has had his own bouts in the public eye and, unfortunately, was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
The Jets were a team many had their eyes on for taking control of the AFC East in 2024. They’ll be lucky if they’re in the hunt by the season’s end. They’ll need to be utterly flawless in these last few months.
Despite a rematch with the Bills in Buffalo in a few weeks, this could be doable, but many other teams in the AFC are looking like more prominent contenders.
