Advice from Eagles GM could lead to more Browns risky moves

The overlap between the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles is almost completely related to one man: Andrew Berry. Berry spent one year with the Eagles after time in Cleveland before returning to run the Browns as their general manager. Berry has often spoken of his time in Philadelphia and what he learned from GM Howie Roseman.

While the Browns and Eagles won’t match up in Brazil as many expected, the two teams have spent time together in joint practices.

Berry certainly learned about aggressive, as he talked about in his press conference after being hired, from Roseman. Cleveland’s GM is known as such throughout the league and fans have seen the results with very active free-agent periods and a number of big trades.

Browns fans are still waiting to see the Deshaun Watson trade bear the kind of fruit that is worthy of multiple high draft picks and a large guaranteed contract. A glimpse into a quote from Roseman that adorns Berry’s office could mean that risky moves are far from over in Cleveland:

While welcoming QB Jameis Winston to the facility, we got a glimpse into the type of things that Berry sees every day in his office including the above quote. That the Browns GM is not worried about having to “make a decision that could cost you your job” is not surprising. The questions are:

-How far is Berry willing to go?
-What risk is too big?
-Does “a decision” mean just one or is many an option?
With Patrick Mahomes with the Kansas City Chiefs, having “the best player” is clearly not an option to fulfill Roseman’s quote. Cleveland is clearly a Super Bowl-level roster and a real threat if Watson is a very good quarterback in 2024. Is there a move, risky or not, that would make the Browns significantly better this season? If so, will Berry pull the trigger?

It is obvious how much the one year in Philadelphia with Roseman has impacted Berry’s thinking. It will be interesting to watch if another “decision that could cost you your job” is possible as the Browns try to get where the Eagles have… a Super Bowl championship
