Alejandro Garnacho has liked a post on social media after Paul Scholes took a swipe at Manchester United’s handling of Kobbie Mainoo’s situation. The Argentine seemingly offered support to his former teammate as the England international continues to be left in the cold by head coach Ruben Amorim.
The United icon slammed the treatment of the 20-year-old academy graduate after recent transfer business at Old Trafford has seen the likes of Scott McTominay go from strength-to-strength in Serie A with Napoli. Mainoo was an unused substitute for the draw with West Ham United on Thursday.
Scholes launched an x-rated post on social media and claimed that the midfielder is being “ruined”.
He wrote: “Bulls**** The kid is being ruined, not being played in a team that can’t control a game of football!
“Hate seeing home grown players leave but it’s probably best for him now, enough is enough.”
The post was pubished on the Premier League-winner’s Instagram and was shared as a post by a United fan account shortly after. It has emerged that Garnacho liked the post.
Despite leaving for Chelsea in the summer for £40million, he offered his support for his former teammate.
The Portuguese tactician has been forced to defend his use of United’s academy after they have yet to start a graduate in the Premier League this season.
“I just want to win,” Amorim said.
“I don’t look (at) who it is, I don’t care about that, I’m just trying to put the best players on the pitch.
“Of course I understand, and my job is to answer.
“But you always ask me the same thing. I understand what you are saying. You love Kobbie. He starts for England. But that doesn’t mean that I need to put Kobbie [in] when I feel that I shouldn’t put Kobbie [in]. It’s my decision.”
Mainoo has managed 261 minutes for his boyhood club with his only start coming in the Carabao Cup against Grimsby Town.
Reports have suggested that the midfielder is seeking a loan move away from United during the January transfer window, after becoming frustrated over a lack of first-team action.
The Athletic have suggested the club will not take action until after the Africa Cup of Nations, which starts this month, before the final takes place on January 17. As it stands, United will lose three players, Amad, Bryan Mbeumo and Noussair Mazraoui, with the deadline for the tournament in Morocco on December 15.
