Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry has been one of the best at his job since being hired by the team in the winter of 2020. Berry helped build a roster that could compete for the Super Bowl this season, but there are some question marks about some players Berry, and the Cleveland Browns have gone after the past few years.
Andrew Berry Trades For Deshaun Watson
In March of 2022, the Browns traded for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, who at the time was facing sexual assault allegations. Watson was suspended for the first 11 games of the 2022 season because of those allegations, which put the team in a very difficult spot.
The Browns received a lot of criticism from people around the NFL, and even their fanbase, for the Watson trade, with all the allegations against him at the time of the deal.
Cleveland lost many fans because of the Watson move, and he wasn’t the only player Berry acquired who had faced allegations with females in the past.
Perrion Winfrey Had A Share Of Off The Field Issues
In the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft, Andrew Berry selected defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey out of Oklahoma. After a promising rookie season, he screwd up his career with several off-field issues in the offseason of 2023, with one being domestic abuse against a female.
Winfrey was able to get the assault charge dropped last summer after he completed a pretrial diversion program. Still, even though the assault charge was gone, he later ended his Browns career after being a suspect in an aggravated robbery incident.
The Winfrey draft pick became a total mess, and the Browns wasted a fourth-round pick on a guy they only had for a season because he couldn’t behave off the field. Now Cleveland could face the same issue this offseason but with a very high draft pick.
Mike Hall Jr. Was Arrested On Tuesday
Mike Hall Jr.’s defensive tackle out of Ohio State was a second-round pick by the Browns this offseason, and on Tuesday morning, he was arrested for a domestic dispute that happened on Monday night.
Hall was taken off a few team’s draft boards this draft cycle because of behavioral concerns, and that issue came out on Monday, making the Browns look bad once again.
Andrew Berry is faced with a real issue here and the best thing to do is to get rid of Hall and make sure he never plays football for the Cleveland Browns.
Berry has to change his draft strategy because losing two draft picks in the last three drafts due to domestic violence is not a good look.
Losing players that you drafted with high picks for issues that had off the field could sometimes be prevented, and if teams around the league didn’t have Hall on their draft boards because of behavioral concerns, then why did Cleveland spend a second-round pick on him?
