Aston Villa complete Man City transfer as midfielder returns

Aston Villa have completed the signing of Manchester City midfielder Kane Taylor, who came through the youth ranks at Bodymoor Heath.

The 19-year-old left Villa for City back in 2019 for City, where he signed a scholarship in 2021 and progressed to the Under-18s for 2021/22 – playing eight times in the U18 Premier League and four times in Premier League 2.

In 2022/23, Taylor made 16 appearances in the Premier League 2, before scoring four goals in 19 Premier League 2 games last season. The powerful midfielder caught the eye in the UEFA Youth League, recording nine goal contributions in six appearances.

Taylor is also capable of playing in defence as well as his natural position of central midfield. He is yet to make his senior debut and it is unclear whether he will play in Villa’s academy next season or head out on loan after completing his move.

Villa have reduced the average age of their first-team squad under Unai Emery and have also invested heavily in their academy operations since Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens took control of the club in the summer of 2018.

Back in January, Villa signed Lino Sousa from Arsenal and Kosta Nedeljkovic from Red Star Belgrade. Morgan Rogers, who turned 22 last month, also arrived from Middlesbrough for an initial £8m fee.
