Aston Villa consider signing £24m-rated Liverpool star

The start of the 2024/25 Premier League season is now just a week away and clubs are starting to really step up their transfer plans as they look to finalise deals before facing their first opponents.

The teams still have until the end of the month to both sign and offload players this window but we are quickly approaching crunch time in England’s top flight.

Aston Villa have enjoyed a fruitful summer so far but rumours continue to link them to other targets. Wolves are also looking at completing some last-minute deals in both purchases and sales — let’s take a look at the latest rumours for the two clubs.

Villa eye Liverpool defender

Aston Villa are keeping their eye out for more potential defensive signings this summer, having already forked out to bring in Ian Maatsen from Chelsea. After signing the left-back, Villa are once again monitoring the situation at Stamford Bridge and are interested in Trevoh Chalobah among other Premier League defenders.

According to The Telegraph’s Matt Law, Unai Emery’s side are also looking at Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida and Liverpool’s Joe Gomez. The latter has been attracting attention in recent months, with Tottenham Hotspur also showing interest earlier in the year.

Gomez showed off his versatility last season when Liverpool were hit with an injury crisis to their backline. The England international is a centre-back by trade and has often filled in at right-back too, but he stepped up at left-back last season when both Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas were injured. Gomez is currently valued at €28 million (£24m) by Transfermarkt.
