Aston Villa joined by Everton in transfer pursuit as Arsenal demands are laid bare

Aston Villa are preparing for life in the Champions League after finishing in the top four this past season. They ended in 4th position behind Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

The transfer window has now opened for business meaning they are able to bring in some new signings. With that in mind, here is a look at some of the latest news and rumours coming out of the club…

Aston Villa have been linked with a swoop for Roma striker Tammy Abraham along with fellow top flight sides Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham. He had a loan spell at Villa Park back in the 2018/19 campaign and scored 26 goals in all competitions to help the Midlands outfit win promotion from the Championship under former boss Dean Smith.

In this latest update regarding his situation by the Daily Mail, Everton have become the latest team to be credited with an interest in the forward. The Toffees are gearing up for another year the top division under Sean Dyche.

Abraham, who is 26-years-old, rose up through the academy ranks at Chelsea and was a regular for the London club at various different youth levels as a youngster. He was loaned out to Bristol City and Swansea City to get some experience under his belt before his temporary switch to Villa.

The Camberwell-born man went on to make 82 appearances in all competitions for the Blues and fired 30 goals before Roma lured him over to Italy. He has since been a key player for the Serie A giants and has found the net on 37 occasions over the past few years.

Unai Emery could see him as someone to add more competition and depth to their striking department.

Arsenal man update

A report back in February by Teamtalk claimed Aston Villa were interested in Arsenal attacking midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe along with Newcastle United. He has fallen out of favour at the Emirates Stadium and is expected to move on for a new challenge in his career somewhere else in the near future.

According to Football Insider, the Gunners want a fee in the region of £30million and will ‘accept’ an offer that meets that valuation.

Arteta explained earlier this year why Smith-Rowe’s game time has dried up: “We discussed things and we cannot play every player in every game. Those players played a few games ago against Newcastle and they had opportunities to do that.

“Now we have five subs, before we had only three, so we have another two players happy. That’s the way I take it, but you always have players who want to be involved and play, but unfortunately it is impossible. It’s not in our hands, it’s impossible to achieve that so they know that.

“You cannot really promise anything. You never know what is going to happen in a three weeks time or seven days.

“Just I think we have to show the compassion and they need to feel that we are next to them and we understand where they are, but the reality as well is that this is football.

“This is a team sport and you have to understand and fulfil the role that you have in the moment and it might be very different in three weeks time.”
