Bears offensive woes continue, trail Patriots 13-3 at halftime

The Chicago Bears have carried their offensive struggles into their Week 10 matchup against the New England Patriots, trailing 13-3 at halftime.

The Bears now have gone six consecutive quarters without scoring a touchdown and have only generated 87 total yards on 29 plays in the first half on Sunday. They jogged off to their locker room at half while being showered in boos from Bears fans at Soldier Field.

The game remained tied 3-3 until the Patriots were led by rookie quarterback Drake Maye, going 10 plays for 70 yards, ending with a two-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Polk to give the visitors a 10-3 edge at Soldier Field with 1:46 remaining in the half.

Maye led his team down the field again before the end of the half, going five plays for 41 yards, setting up a 37-yard field goal made by Joey Slye to extend New England’s lead to 10.

Maye has completed 9-for-15 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown and interception each. Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson has 10 carries for 40 yards.

The Bears punted on their first three drives and then went 12 plays for 50 yards before settling for a 33-yard field goal from Cairo Santos in the second quarter.

Quarterback Caleb Williams has completed 6-for-13 passes for 43 yards. He’s been sacked twice as the Bears came into the game down four offensive linemen and Teven Jenkins also is questionable to return to Sunday’s game after he was injured in the first half.

Chicago’s run game is encouraging at the very least through one half, something head coach Matt Eberflus and offensive coordinator Shane Waldron may want to lean into more coming out of the half. D’Andre Swift has 11 carries for 44 yards (4 yards per carry).

Keenan Allen is the leading receiver through the first half, hauling in all four targets for 34 yards.

The Bears have yet to convert on a third down conversion, going 0-for-6 so far. The Patriots are 3-for-7 on third downs, including 3-for-3 on their final offensive drive of the first half.

If Chicago can’t turn around their fortunes on offense in the second half, it could be another day closer to Eberflus’ and Waldron’s final days in Chicago.
