Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is still searching for NFL immortality after falling just three points short to the Los Angeles Rams (23-20) in Super Bowl LVI a couple of years ago.
While those goals have not changed, Burrow has now set his sights on taking his talents to the worldwide stage of the Summer Olympics as well.
“I really want to play for the Olympic flag football team,” Burrow said on the “Pardon My Take” podcast. “Like Me, Ja’Marr (Chase), Justin (Jefferson), me and my friends out there playing football. I think it’d be really cool.”
In 2028, flag football will officially become an event at the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, and it sounds like Burrow is going to do everything he can to be a part of the United States team.
If he can recruit Chase and Jefferson to join as well, the United States would be a very tough out.
Since entering the league as the No. 5 overall pick in 2021, Chase has registered 268 catches for 3,717 yards and 29 touchdowns.
Jefferson, on the other hand, has not played with Burrow since their LSU days but has reeled in 392 catches for 5,899 yards and 30 touchdowns since entering the NFL as the No. 22 overall pick in 2020.
Burrow added that it would be “embarrassing” for the United States to not win the gold medal the first time that flag football is played on an Olympic level. However, he and his potential teammates still have some time until they must make those decisions.
In the meantime, Burrow is solely focused on returning to his dominant play after suffering a season-ending wrist injury last season.
“If you’re not out there and people aren’t watching you, then there’s nothing to talk about,” Burrow added. “I’m going to give people something to talk about this year. I’m excited about it.”
Burrow has thrown for 14,083 yards and 97 touchdowns across 52 games.
