The Bruins struggled to pinpoint the root of their problems Saturday night.
Head coach Jim Montgomery and top goal scorer David Pastrnak were similarly stumped about why Boston struggled so mightily late in its game against Ottawa at TD Garden. The Bruins didn’t log a single shot on net in the third period and the rival Senators scored the game-winner less than a minute into overtime.
Boston’s lingering struggles probably can be linked to multiple factors, but Brad Marchand believes there’s one way the B’s can start turning things around.
“Sometimes when you lack confidence or you’re overthinking, your execution is slow,” Marchand told reporters, per The Athletic. “We need to get out of our heads. Stop thinking and start playing. It comes down to will and compete at this point. We need to understand we need to be better. That’s part of it. Sometimes when you’re thinking about where you’re supposed to be, you’re half a second late. That’s too slow in this league.”
The Black and Gold will try to heed their captain’s advice Tuesday when they open a two-game road trip against the St. Louis Blues. Puck drop for the 2019 Stanley Cup Final rematch is set for 8 p.m. ET.
