Brighton CEO speaks out as Rangers see £4.2m Abdallah Sima deal frustration

Not only have Rangers gone quiet in the transfer market, but there aren’t even any concrete links to players who could potentially join Philippe Clement’s revolution.

The manager doesn’t have his problems to seek as he looks to rebuild the squad, however, he knows that he needs more quality to achieve his goals.

One player who would be a welcome addition would be the return of Abdallah Sima, someone who Rangers fans grew to love last season.

Brighton CEO makes transfer claim as Rangers eye Abdallah Sima

The Senegal international has teased fans all summer and Clement has also spoken about how close his relationship is with the 22-year old.

Brighton have been busy in the transfer market, signing players for big money who will bump Sima further down the pecking order.

His lack of game time in pre-season would have given him an early indication too.

With news of potential interest from Brest, Rangers will have to move quickly, although Brighton CEO Peter Barber has explained why the Seagulls won’t be difficult to deal with when ask on Talksport about his side’s transfer business:

“Well, we’ve still got quite a bit of work to do but we’ve also still got a lot to do to move one or two players on as well.

“We’ve got a very big squad and we want to make sure that all of our players get the chance to play some football this coming season so, it’s not just incomings, it’s outgoings as well.”

Rangers need to move fast if they want to land Sima deal

Brighton have spent more than they’ve made this summer for the first time in years and will be wanting to get money off the wage bill and to try and close that gap.

Sima only has a year left of his current contract with Brighton, however, the Premier League outfit do have an option to extend this.

Rangers are stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment.

Frustrating as it is, they are doing the right thing by balancing the books.

A reset has been needed for a long time but this doesn’t help the mood in the stands.

Brest are reportedly looking to loan Sima with an option to buy of around £4.2m, if this is the case, Nils Koppen should be picking up the phone to David Weir and asking him to do us another favour.

From the player’s perspective too, he has been at a different club in each of the last four seasons and, if he moved to Brest, that would make it five, surely Sima would want a bit of stability and familiar surroundings?

His old locker at Auchenhowie might still be empty.
