Brighton mulling over fresh Leeds United transfer approach

Brighton & Hove Albion are now considering whether to launch a fresh offer for Leeds United star Georginio Rutter, according to talkSPORT.

The Seagulls have taken an interest in a number of the Whites’ key stars this summer, with the club holding talks with the Championship side for four of their most important players following their failure to secure promotion back to the Premier League.

Rutter is one of them, with Crysencio Summerville also thought to be on their target list.

Their interest in the latter is no surprise, with the 22-year-old winger only likely to get better following an incredible 2023/24 campaign at Elland Road, with the Dutchman benefitting from having the game time needed to make an impact.

Wilfried Gnonto is another player who is thought to have been of interest to the south-coast side in recent weeks, although they may have to fork out a sizeable fee for the player, who still has three years left on his contract at Elland Road.

After putting the transfer saga of last summer behind him, the Italian has been a vital figure in West Yorkshire in recent months and with the player seemingly not pushing for a move away at this point, that could put Daniel Farke’s side in a strong negotiating position.

Glen Kamara is another player that is on their radar, but Leeds are in need of recruiting central midfielders at this point and may be desperate to hold on to the likes of the ex-Rangers man and Ilia Gruev, who has recently been linked with a move to German giants Borussia Dortmund.

Brighton considering fresh approach for Leeds United forward Georginio Rutter

Rutter wasn’t able to keep Leeds in the top flight during the latter stages of the 2022/23 campaign, having had an indifferent start to his time in West Yorkshire.

However, he was a great asset for the Whites last season and can count himself unlucky not to have been part of a promotion-winning side.

A return to the top tier could be on the horizon for Rutter at some point, with or without his current team, but a move to the Amex Stadium won’t be materialising yet with Brighton having a £30m offer for the attacker rejected.

It has been reported by talkSPORT that the Seagulls are now weighing up whether to submit a fresh offer, or whether to end their pursuit and look at other targets.

Leeds United will be keen to retain Georginio Rutter

Leeds benefitted from having Rutter at their disposal last term.

His goalscoring contributions led the Whites to third place and without him, the club will look less threatening going forward.

Not only were his goalscoring contributions important, but he was also very energetic last term, with his dribbling ability benefitting the West Yorkshire side.

If he does leave, bringing in a replacement won’t be easy, so it will be interesting to see whether any team can launch a bid big enough to persuade the Whites to cash in.

£30m is a sizeable amount, but Leeds have stayed firm and that indicates that they will take a strong stance on the attacker this summer.
