Elias Lindholm was expected back this week after missing the Bruins’ first exhibition game with an undisclosed injury. But that didn’t happen and he remained off the ice on Tuesday.
“He didn’t give it a go today just because of where he’s at,” coach Jim Montgomery told reporters after Tuesday’s practice. “He’s day to day. Not going to play this week.”
It remains unclear what is ailing Lindholm. Montgomery said Friday the Bruins were just being cautious with the center.
The Bruins play three preseason games this week — Tuesday against the Washington Capitals, Thursday against the New York Rangers and Saturday against the Philadelphia Flyers. Training camp and the preseason would likely be beneficial for Lindholm, who signed an eight-year deal with Boston over the summer.
Lindholm will likely center David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha for the upcoming season. The trio has had minimal time together but stood out on the first day of training camp despite a slow start on drills.
The Bruins will continue without Lindholm on Tuesday night in the team’s second preseason game. Puck drop against the Capitals from TD Garden is set for 7 p.m.
